1. Build relationships

A built relationship with other people contributes a sense of wellbeing. It may involve families, friends, relatives, colleagues. It creates a sense of comfort and leads to better productivity and better healing.

2. Exercise and stay active

Exercise and physical activities have been shown to reduce stress and achieve better mental health. A good way to start is to get comfortable, select a time and a place free from distractions. A 30 min workout sessions at least 5 days a week is recommended.

3. Eat Healthy

What you eat directly affects the function of the brain and ultimately, your mood. A healthy well balanced diet is a way to go, by eating a healthy breakfast and staying hydrated(drink 8 glasses of water a day).A good source of nutrients for the brain is omega-3 fatty acids.

4. Prioritize Yourself

One of the effect of bad mental health is people get down on themselves about how they feel. Avoid procrastination and put yourself in a larger context, taking a break for few minutes or longer eliminate stress and helps get back on task. Start claiming 10-15 minutes a day for yourself.

5. Disconnect from electronics and social medias

Social media addiction has been described as potentially more addictive than alcohol and cigarettes. FOMO(fear of missing out) leads to anxiety and stress. Set a time plan to use social medias and avoid comparing yourself with others and try to reduce envying of others.

6. Identify and utilize your strengths

We all have strength and weakness within ourselves, exploring what you’re good at and using it increases the wellbeing. Use your strength to help others or contribute it somewhere where it will bring you a sense of meaning and satisfaction.

7. Meditate

A meditation for as few as 10 minutes each can achieve a great capacity for relaxation and eases the mind. You can initiate it by sitting in q quiet place with eyes closed for 10 to 20 minutes and relax your muscles starting from the feet till your face and breathe through your nose in a free and natural way.

8. Get plenty of sleep

A good sleep improves the psychological functions and improves productivity. Plan an hour of quiet time before your bedtime, develop rituals of things that remind and relaxes your body such as bathing, reading, relaxing stretches etc.

9. Expose to sunlight

Sunlight is a great source of vitamin D. It helps our brains to release chemicals like endorphin and serotonin which improve our moods. 30 minutes a day of sunlight is ideal but remember to keep your skin and eyes safe.

10. Set realistic goals

Note down what you want to achieve academically, professionally and personally and plan a strategy to achieve this. Aim high but be realistic, the more you progress the more you feel a sense of satisfaction and self worth.

11. Don’t rush things

We always tend to rush things and get it done in a jiffy which builds up more time limits and disturbs our mind.Take a moment and relax to see the problems and solutions clearly. It is always easier to focus on what is happening now rather than worrying of the past or future.

12. Have Fun

Do things which helps you enjoy and feel good about yourself. Make a list of things you can do each day, and give time for yourself for these activities. Use your problem solving skills to achieve this when you feel like you don’t have time or when you feel low.

13. Learn new skills

Learning new skills can boost our confidence and helps to build a sense of purpose. You can try taking a new responsibility at work, learn to cook, learn to play music instruments or try new hobbies that challenges yourself.

14. Avoid heavy substances and seek professional help

Substance use may get in the way out of our ability to control, which hinders the quality and quantity of a person’s life. Seeking a help is a sign of strength, not a weakness. You may try speaking to a friend or family or if you think that your mental health is on its highest peak, you may try consulting a psychologist.
