Pyare Lal Kaul’s book Kashmir Trail and Travail was released during the first session of the All India Newspaper Owners Conference held in New Delhi in 1996.

The first session of the All India Newspaper Owners Conference was held on August 29, 1996, at the Constitutional Club in New Delhi. The event brought together representatives from across the country to discuss issues concerning the press, media independence, and the future of journalism in India.

The session was presided over by Ms. Ratan Mala, Member of Parliament from Karnataka. During the conference, a significant highlight was the release of the book Kashmir Trail and Travail, authored by Pyare Lal Kaul, an advocate, journalist, and former socialist leader.

Kaul’s work was recognized as an important contribution to understanding the socio-political realities of Kashmir. The book reflects his insights into the region’s history, challenges, and evolving circumstances, offering readers a perspective shaped by both experience and analysis.

In addition to the book release, the conference addressed several issues affecting the press, including challenges faced by newspaper owners, the need for fair distribution of government advertisements, and the importance of safeguarding press freedom. Concerns regarding security threats to journalists and administrative hurdles were also highlighted.

The event concluded with discussions emphasizing the role of responsible journalism in strengthening democracy and ensuring informed public discourse. The release of Kaul’s book in such a forum underscored its relevance to national conversations on Kashmir and media responsibility.
